DB2 Coil Connections

My DB2 arrived with a fried Nology coil, and I opted to pick up some OEM Ducati coils (original style for the DB2) that are appropriate for a carb'ed '94 SS bike. The problem I have is that the coils have two different sized blade connectors on them, but the connectors on the bike's wiring has two same-sized blade connectors. I will assume that the connections are important, or the blades on the coils would be the same size. Anyone know how I should hook these things up? Thanks.

I pulled my fairing off this weekend to get the engine number verified. It should be easy to see the wiring. Coils will lose KV if the polarity is reversed so it should just be a matter of making sure you have the positive connector going to the positive side of the coils.

That's kinda what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. When you get the chance, see which colored wires go where, and that may help me. If the colors are different, I'll need to know where the wires connect to the coils and the CDI. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.

Did you have any issues pulling off your fairing? Mine went fairly smooth, which Jim warned me to be prepared for some creaking and cracking noises (I had none).

Looks like I got worried for nothing. After posting a thread on the SuperSport forum, I went back and checked the new coils I picked up and they actually are labeled. The + and - are molded into the body end where the potting is. I must have been holding it in some way to not recognize it. I just pulled the Nology coils and they are labeled, also, so....as long as the previously installed coils were connected correctly, it's a no-brainer.

For reference,

Vertical coil:
White with red stripe wire is the positive
Gray wire is the negative

Horizontal coil:
White with red stripe wire is the postive
Brown with green strip wire is the negative

Solo fairing removal went well.
I parked the bike over a blanket on the rear wheel stand. Wrapped the front wheel with a table cloth. Dropped the fairing to the ground and worked it over the fork and wheel a little at a time going from side to side. I also used my shop roller stool under the nose to keep it somewhat level. No creaking or cracking noises. I also got the wax the underside.
I'm glad it wasn't too bad as the fairing will have to go off and on as I get some things taken care of. I can't afford to do it all right now.

If I have to take the fairing off with any frequency, I'm going to have to build a stand to support it. I have the tail section/tank cover draped on top of a Paso project I have and the front fairing is wrapped in a blanket and wedged between the Paso 750 and the wife's ST2 to hold it upright.

I installed the coils and some new wires on the bike before work and fired her up. So sweet sounding, deep, warm tone to the exhaust. I ran it for about three minutes while tweaking the idle as it warmed up. Then, I dropped the oil and filter and was just about to put new oil in it when I ran out of time and had to leave for work. Tomorrow, I'll try to refill the bike, bleed the brakes and clutch, and maybe put the bodywork back on it. I'm hoping to take it for its first spin sometime Friday (I have Fridays off of work).

Yup, bodywork off a bike is hard to deal with. I need to do a few things to my F1 but it has to wait until I put the DB2 back together.
Hope you have a great first ride.

The first ride is delayed. Just discovered that the needle bearing in the output shaft that the clutch push rod rides on is shot....and it destroyed the clutch push rod. I have a push rod but trying to source the bearing as our local dealer didn't have one in stock.

That's the one in the pressure plate and I have a couple of spares in my toolbox. The one that is bad is the needle bearing in the tranny shaft that the push rod goes through (Ducati #702.5.044.1A). I changed the one on the ST2 a year and a half ago. I remembered about an hour ago that I bought two of them when I did the ST2, and my wife located my spare for me since I'm at work. I will probably get the clutch back together tomorrow. That little bearing is an absolute PITFA to remove.
