After Years of Wanting One....
I finally broke down and bought a Bimota. It's a 1994 DB2 Tri-Color. After only having it for a few hours, it appears to have...
Updated master cylinders
Carbon fiber bars
Keihin FCR 41 carb modification with air box removed
"Race" exhaust
and a few other small goodies
I don't see any major issues with the bike, but with almost 18k miles on it, it has been ridden a bit. It's also been repainted. This is just what I've been looking for over the last few years because I wanted one to ride, not simply look at. I'll change the timing belts and do a valve check/adjust on it in the next week or two.
Now, either I figure out the starting ritual to start this beast with those FCR carbs, or I'm ripping them off and installing something with chokes.

I'll bet you're the guy that Jim Calandro was telling me about!
The FCRs were pretty much intended as a racing carb. Most were sold without enricheners. They do offer them with though. If you need to buy new carbs, as in didn't get the stock ones with the bike then I'd stick with FCRs. Just buy ones that have enricheners. You'll probably want to get a remote control set-up too. I'm pretty sure thse are also available for them.
I'm thinking about FCRs after I take care of a few other things with mine. I just bought a twin of your bike a couple of weeks ago.

If you spoke with him in the last 4 weeks and about Bimotas, I'm sure he was talking about me. I've been asking him questions left-and-right about this bike since the day it came up for sale. I bet I harassed him at least three times yesterday about the FCR carbs and have now branched out to two other fellow US Desmo members

If these FCR's give me as much of a fit as I think they may, I'll sell you mine.
Yeah, I posted on your thread a few times. Knowing that I was working on buying this one and then actually purchasing the bike, it was difficult making sure I didn't thread-jack your post.
Yours is a bit cleaner than this one.

I'll probably get carbs with enricheners.
You can probably sell them to a racer. Maybe work out a trade for stock Mikunis with someone setting up a race or track bike.
Thread jacking is okay with me. I think Jim knows my DB2. I got it from a mutual friend. As soon as I can get it registered I'll start riding it more.

Other than the obvious upgrade master cylinders and the carbon fiber bars, I've been digging some more and found...
Carbon fiber timing belt covers
Nichol's engine bolts
Older style Yoyodyne clutch slave
the pressure plate is billet (which I'll probably be selling and going back to a closed cover)
Clutch appears to be brand new with no tab or basket wear
I've been having issues getting it started and discovered it arrived with a fried Nology ignition coil. I've got another set of coils on their way to the house and some new timing belts. I started doing the valves on the bike and all four shims needed to be changed on the horizontal cylinder, and the oil smells pretty bad. I haven't looked at the vertical cylinder, yet.
If all goes well, I'll have her all taken care of and back together by the end of the weekend.

Valve adjustment (7 of 8 shims), timing belts, (used) coils, new plugs and plug wires, clutch push rod bearing and seal, new clutch push rod, bled the clutch and rear brake with new lines from the master cylinder to the reservoir, oil and filter, and a few other things, and I finally got the bike started this past week, did a couple of trial runs, and then ran another 100+ miles today, including about 40 miles in the mountains. I've got nearly 200 miles on the bike now. It's definitely different in feeling than my 748 and ST2 and will take a while to get used to. I dragged a knee and was railing in some curves, but then slow as cr@p in a few others. I am inconsistent with it, but I didn't spend much time in the moutains. I think I figured out the starting ritual with the FCR41 carbs and trying to get used to the lightweight of the bike.
If all goes well, I think this will become one of my main bikes, but strangely (or simply a mental issue), the bike "feels" to be old/older. I'm hoping to wrap up a few more miles in the next week or two, and I am guessing it won't take much to get used to the bike. I'm guessing 1000 miles within two weeks....if I can get out of the house with it often enough and take it to the Ducks Fly South rally in Hiawassee, GA next weekend.

Well good luck with it this week. Maybe Jim will get his out for the fllight south too.
I rode mine to work a couple of times this week and rode my Hypermotard today. Going back and forth the DB2 does feel older but not really in a bad way. My F1 feels a bit older again. They are though so its to be expected.
I'm still fighting a high idle problem. I adjusted the idle cab sync a bit and richened it up a tad a couple of weeks ago which helped but when the bike is hot the idle has been getting up to just ove 2000 RPM again. I may have to sell another bike to finance some FCR's. :-))
