I noticed the 04 St4s Senna on ebay and it is about 30 minutes from me so I went today and looked at it. The bike is mint, literally 99.99% perfect. Not a nick or scratch or bug or spec of dust anywhere. It has all the maintenence records, the original sales and service receipts, owners manuals, all the books, paperwork, keys and extra keys for everything. It has all three boxes also. (rear is red with Ducati Label)
Had one warranty issue (cracked fairing) fixed zero cost.
Had one 600 mile service done.
Oil changed again at 2000 miles
it has a few mods that I could see:
Helibars
some sort of handlebar cruise control
aeroflow? smoked fairing "vent shade" looking things (attach at sides of factory fairing)?
original exhaust, seat, tires, clutch cover etc.
The original owner (living in Illinois) bought it in 2005 from a dealership in VA. He paid 12,550.00 including tax etc. The dealer is asking 8995.00 which I think is way to much. NADA is 7400.00 with average miles. KBB says 7000.00
The bike has 3034 miles and seriously looks like brand new. The seller will probably sell it for 7750.00 plus or minus a little.
How rare is the Senna color, and what do you think about the price? Does the 3k miles really drive it up that much compared to a bike with say 12k on it? I realize it is worth whatever anyone will pay but I am curious as to what you knowledgeable duc owners think. I am a noob looking for an ST that I will keep for a long time.
With all that said if anyone else is interested in the bike and want me to take pictures or ask questions for them let me know. Be happy to help out.
If you are looking to buy an ST4s, thats the one. Offer Book price with cash in hand, if no,walk out and the dealer will stop you before you get to your car. Remember, if you wait long enough, you won't want to ride or be able to ride anymore.
I'm an ST4s owner and was trying to find what you're looking it (I got a deal on an '02 I couldn't pass up.) Although I don't think the dealer's offer is bad (especially for a bike with that mileage) I would always try to get them down in price. If they won't reduce the price, see if they'll throw in some costly scheduled maintenance for free.
I'd offer him 8 big, all cash, plus tax. The miles are excellent. The 04-05 ST4s are great bikes, and Senna is the most seductive color you can imagine. The gray is a very subtle metalflake, and the wheels are Marchesini. "From my cold, dead hands."
Sometimes I just sit out in my garage staring at my bike, wondering what I could possibly do to improve on perfection. A bit there, a farkle here, nothing too dramatic.
If Ducati were ever to try to recreate the Senna ST4s, all they could do is tie a 1198 engine to a Senna ST that weighted about 80 lbs less, and guys like me with make offerings to the motorcycle god.:abduct:
...............I don't even want to think about life without this bike. I'm @ 33,400 & just put 6700 miles on in 2-1/2 weeks. These bikes may not be for everyone but it is just what the doctor ordered for me. If there is anything else that handles as well with saddlebags I don't know about it. Before this I had a '99 ST4 I put 17,000 miles on. How about some teaser pics?
Gregg
+1 for what Greg said. There's nothing that appeals to me as much as my ST.
I do believe the subject bike is well worth book value. I like Mojo and Ron's idea. There's no reason to over pay. As far as mileage, if it is more than 2mi on the odo, it doesn't matter. If it is that low after 6yrs, sitting around causes just as many issues as riding it like you stole it. As much as I like mine, it is just a machine that happens to have a ton of personality. But, it is a machine first and foremost.
Knowing what I know now, I'd probably start talking about doing a valve/belt check quite soon after buying. Either way, that's something north of $1k whether you buy the tools/parts/supplies you need to do it or willingly let someone else turn the wrenches.
If you turn the wrenches and set the valve shim clearances to the desmotimes recommended settings, you will take a good bit of time doing it, but end up with one sweet running bike. That is something someone else will not do for you without a lot more cash.
The Senna color isn't a special addition of any kind and I don’t think they are particularly rare. I know of at least one more in my area, surely there are more. The color scheme is cool, I was looking for a red one when I was in the market. The Senna color was available at a decent price, and like the one you're looking at, practically new as far as mileage goes. I think I’ve seen fewer blue ST2s than I have Senna ST4s’.
Hahaha. Most definitely grey, black, and blue are definitely good on the stealth side. Red is such a loud color that I could never find myself riding/driving a red vehicle. They do look nice though.
Do note that you should do a full service and change the tires so factor that into the price. Since it's not been ridden much, it could be a bike that's great on the outside but not so good inside. Don't get carried away by a clean exterior.
on the particular bike that is the subject of this thread these would have to come off for me to ride it. At full lock the fairing additions interfere with my use of the clutch and brake lever. With gloves it would be a real challenge.
