Do You Wear A Back Protector Riding Your ST?
I recently injured my back at work this month...all is better now...and have been thinking more of preventative back protection. Now I have and wear protective gear when riding; helmet, gloves, jacket with armour, pants with armour, boots, but no back protector. I know the track riders use them, but do most riders use them for street riding. I know it sound foolish but I never gave much thought to using back armour. I would imagine a crash at almost any speed could trash your back, particularly at highway speeds. so be honest, do you wear a seperate or individual back protector/protective armour (not incorporated in a jacket) while riding your ST bike? if so, which one (brand or model) do you prefer?

The poll is a little misleading! I'm assuming you mean separate back protecting armour that you wear under a jacket. If so, I vote 'no'.
However, all my jackets have built in back protection. Some jackets are better than others, but I still regard what's in them as 'back protection'.

I have a Bohn back protector but only use it on track or when riding to/from the track since it won't fit into the bags. My road jacket has a removeable back pad which I use on the street and while it would not offer the same level of protection, at least it's something.
The back protector is not at all uncomfortable to wear as long as you have room under your jacket. The one I bought is also made of material which you can soak in cold water on hot days.

Sorry folks! Forgive me please, I do mean a separate or individual back protector. Not one incorporated into a jacket. Now if I could only find a way to modify the wording on the poll answers.

I have a Vanson. The back protector isn't integrated into the jacket, but it does go between the jacket lining and outer leather.
How would that be classified?

I have a Bohn, but have never worn it with the ST2.....I have thought that maybe I should, though. I've only used it with my 748 on the track and with the 748 on the street on a few occasions, but I haven't worn it in the last year and a half on the street. I really need to start wearing it, again.

One of my Spidi jackets has an integrated protector, so it's not possible to wear a separate protector with that one.
I have a separate Dainese protector that came with my Ducati Corse suit, and I wear that IF I plan on doing some serious limit-pushing, but not for normal riding.
Tom
P.S. What I wear depends on the type of riding I am planning to do (and which roads), NOT which bike I am riding.

Both of my jackets have integrated units.. They are not a substitute for a track type protector.. But I never use one on the road..

Both my jackets have build in protectors (to some form or another) but I never wear an independant unit. But then I'm never on the track either,...
