Saddle Bag Heat Shield Falling Off
Anyone having a hard time keeping their heat shields attached to the bottom of the bags?

Mine nearly fell off on the ride home from the dealer when I picked up the new bike. I have been running my hand over the shield frequently to try to restick it but yesterday it fell off after parking the bike.
Do you think the shields are really needed?

Same thing here. While picking the bike up after purchase, I noticed the left shield coming off so I pressed it back on. A few days later I ee that the right one is completely off so I have m y dealer order up some replacements.
I put the new one on right over the existing sticky stuff and rub it in real good. It seems to be holding tight after several weeks but now the left one is threatening to come off. I still have another replacement (they come in packs of 2) and I will probably put that one on when/if the original flys away.
Check you shields often because they will mare the finish of the cans if left flapping in the wind.

2nd trip and mine are gone! Don't know where I lost 'em. The sticky stuff just peeled right off, too. So, do I need them? Wonder if CF cans will run cooler?

sounds like an opportunity for an aftermarket supplier to step in. The new ones wouldn't last any longer than the old ones, right?

Same thing happened to my last bike. Ended up with some 3M Furnace tape. Very reflective, held just fine.

I had the same problem and used some a glue designed to withstand extreme heat and the shields have been fine since.

ducaati,
The new ones look the same as the old ones, and probably are. It seems to be holding tight, which is due to the extra second layer of sticky stuff.
jneglia,
Good idea on the furnace tape. Can I get that at The Mecca of Home Ownership (HOME DEPOT)?
Anyone have any long term issues with running the bike without heat shields?

I restuck mine with some glue (don't remember what kind), but some of the shiny layer has peeled off. So far, though, no problems overheating either the panniers or the contents. Nonetheless, the furnace tape idea sounds like an inexpensive way to solve the problem - I'm off to Lowe's to get some. Thanks, jneglia.

Saddlebag heat shield
Mine came off also. I ordered some Thermo-Tec (pretty sure) adhesive backed material from www.summitracing.com. Somewhere around $20. & there is more than enough to do 2 bags (3 or 4?). I warmed up the bag & heat shield stuff with a blow dryer. I've been through a few serious Florida torrential downpours & so far it's staying on there good. Gregg
