Which Relay?
I was trying to trace down why my 2000 ST4 was not energizing the fuel pump relay. While checking all the connections one of the relays metal cover pulled right off and the relay guts basically fell into my hand. After I put it back together and zip tied the case on, everything worked fine. Checked out the wiring diagram and per usual the wire colors do not correspond to the schematic.
The relay is small and located in a rubber sleeve at the very top of the left mirror bracket above the headlight relays. I need to call the dealer and make sure they have the part on hand, but want to identify it properly first. Is this the ignition relay or the safety interlock relay?
Thanks in advance

if you pull it out of the boot, is there a part number on it? that's all your dealer will need.

Do you have a pic of this setup? I ask because, havng read your description, there are no relays on the mirror support ears on a stock bike. If it has a Ducati Designs headlight, the headlight wiring harness places a single relay/socket at the base of each mirror support ear.
The fuel pump relay is one of two square ones under the seat. Swap the identical relays to test them.

Paul,
No DD headlight "yet". Stock set up....should have described it as the small relay just forward of and about the same height as the bottom of the mirror support. It sits just above the turn signal flasher and another larger relay that sits right beside the flasher. I do not have access to my service manual right now, but am thinking (but not sure) that it may be part #31 (relay 541.4.003.1A) on page 52 (Head-Light & Electrical Wiring) of the parts list. Definately not the fan or fuel pump relays (the easy ones to get at)
After thrashing it back together I put the plastic back on (so no pictures for a day or two). I was hoping to make a quick parts run to the dealer but should have written down the numbers (Martys suggestion), hindsight...
Thanks for the input, Jeff

I'm pretty sure that the one close to the flasher relay is the hi-beam relay.

Still lost
Went to two dealers over the weekend and neither one could find this relay on their schematics. One said that Ducati NA might be able to help and he would try, but did not sound optimistic. This is a five leg relay that shows as the ignition relay (#3) on the wiring diagram (the only 5 leg relay). Unless I can get a part number the only option would be to order through a Siemens electronic distributor.
Here is what I have on the relay:
Painted on outside #9908
embossed in top: V23073 B1008
A303 12V
It is the left relay in the picture....any suggestions?

Found it!
Many thanks to Paul Geller of Ducati Designs. He was able to identify and locate a source for the offending relay
