Standard handlebar Raisers tweak on ST3
Hi there!
I am a new owner of a beautiful 04 ST3. I love the bike so far ( a month) . I keep reading about standard adjustable handlebars http://www.ducati.com/bikes/my2004/d...delName=ST3-04 (point mouse to the handlebar and read the description...) but I cant find any documentation on how to adjust them.
any advise from more experienced and handy members?

These are height adjustable. The bar fixtures clamp to the fork tube. There is a 5mm hex bolt that may be loosened to raise or lower the bars. That is the adjustment. You may find that the bars are already adjusted to the highest setting. That is the only adjustment with the factory bars.

The handle bars come "out of the box" on their highest setting. I suggest you ride the bike a while before deciding whether or not they need adjusting.

Bill, I've ridden about 12k miles on mine at the highest (factory) setting. I wanted to try lowering them the 20mm the site claims, just to see what they're like. Is it just as simple as loosening the nuts, sliding the bars down and tightening them? No torque specs, no warnings? That simple?

I mentioned the factory setting as most requests are for the bars to be raised, not lowered. I can't help you as far as instructions other than to say they are easy to over torque and break as reported by others on this forum.

I just wanted to see how they felt at the lowest setting for sport riding, but couldn't find any formal instructions in any of the manuals or online anywhere. Does anyone have a link?

the ST3 service manual calls for 10nm on the "handlebar pinch bolts". I've changed mine and typically snug them one click less to avoid overtightening.

Just lower them until the bottom of the mount lines up with the line in the fork tube and then tighten them back up. The torque spec is 10 Nm, greased, torquing one, then the other, and then the first again. I snug them down evenly before torquing so they don't get too uneven.
I feel second line up is a pretty good compromise between feel and comfort and helps keep me out of the wind. I've currently got it on the lowest setting to gain some more wind protection from cold and rain this fall/winter. I've got a better feel from the wheel so I might just leave it there from now on. It might be a bit extreme for long rides, but I figure it just gives me some motivation to get into better shape anyway.
