ST4s front wheel removal trick?
Hey,
What's the trick to get the front wheel off past the calipers? After unbolting the capliers, they don't want to clear the rotor before contacting the inside edge of the rim. I have the wheel raised on the correct stand, etc.
I know I took the 17" front off my 996 years ago, but forgot what I did. Unfortunately, the ST4s is the only bike I still don't have a service manual for. The d*mn Ducati ones are so expensive. And I gave the Haynes manual to the guy who bought my 996.
Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Simply rotate the caliper slightly as you pull them off the rotor. It takes a bit of force. This will compress the brake pads, pushing back the pucks slightly in the caliper and allow you to remove them off the rotors while missing the edge of the rim.

I just pull the pads out. It's too easy of a task to not do it. Once out, the calipers come right off. I used a black sharpie to mark the pads (right inner / outer for example) so they go back in the way they came out.

As above , Its so easy and it prompts a quick clean-up of the pibns etc and re-apllication of copper-grease etc where necessasry (put a small coating on the back of the pads , it helps reduce/avoid "Squeal".

Thanks everyone. Pulling the pads is stupid simple and does give you a chance to clean up the pads and pistons. Rolling again.

Its easier to just do it , it doesn't really need explanation its that straight forward
Just remember to keep all the parts in the right orientation (I.E. make sure the pads go back exactly where they came from , dont mix them up , then give everythig a good clean , grease and replace.
