Dead Battery 2004 ST4s "is it a special or regular off of the shelf battery?"
Ok ST4s nuts...
Is the battery in the ST4s special, or is it a regular 12volt motorcycle battery? It would not take a charge from my trickle charger. The battery is now totaly dead... I am hoping that I dont have to get a special "through the roof expensive" Ducati battery..
If anyone knows the specs on the battery please let me know..
Thanks...

I bought a Westco from Desmotimes 3 months ago. 60 bucks. AGM 12V12B-4
Site says all post Y2K Ducs use the same battery.

Just measure the standard and get one from your local battery specialist or the net. I would spend a bit on something higher up the range though, and sealed of course

You could do that or go to Sears. There are some Jap bikes with the same battery too so if you know anyone that gives you a discount @ a HonKawYamZuki shop you could go that route. Gregg

I'm surprised a 2004 has a failed battery already. You say it won't take a trickle charge - I'm just wondering if you're connecting the charger through the accessory outlet?
If so you might have a blown fuse on that socket, or the socket itself failed.
I had an accessory socket break on the inside, the two little prongs that clamp-on to the male part of a plug when the plug is fully inserted (this is sounding adult!)
I looked into the socket with a flashlight and could see the broken prongs - fatigue cracks.
Just a thought.
If you pulled the battery and it won't take a charge - then what the others said...

My 04 is still running fine. I keep it on a Battery Tender when it is in the garage.

I haven't had to replace a battery in the last 10 years.

Bevel
You shouldn't have jinxed yourself like that. Now you'll probably need a battery for something in the near future!

The battery died that came on my bike died within a few months after puchasing the bike. IMHO, the dealer took my true orig. factory battery, because when I took the one that came on the bike out, it had a Big X scratched on the side. When I purchased my bike, I had to drive 600miles to pick her up, so guess the dealer thought that by the time I figured it out, it would be too late..... and it was.
But there's nothing special about the battery, just an off the shelf YAUSA, or something like that. I ordered one at a local Honda dealership and have not had a problem since.
The dealership that kept my factory battery was the Ducati dealership out of SanAntonio, owner is Kemal.
