Texas vacation recommendation
Need a warm weather destination for 2 weeks to a month for next winter. We are in Kansas City and it would involve my Wife, myself, our dog and the ST3. I had been looking at a furnished place in South Padre that sounded perfect, accepts dogs, but wasn't sure about the bike riding in that area.
We will both be retired, so time, driving etc. is not an issue.
Not locked into Texas, but Arizona and Calif. are 1,500-2,000 miles one way.
As always, thanks.
Jack.

So, I assume you are riding from Kansas to your Texas destination. Weather could be 80s to 20s depending on the day. Things change fast in Texas. Corpus Christi area is probably your best bet for getting 70s type weather during the winter, but it still could be 40s. My problem with the coast area is that the riding is flat farm land.
Big Bend National park is a favorite for riders in Texas. Just check out the weather first. I left the park one December on my Triumph and the temperature was 21. I haven't forgotten.

I remember seeing a gent in Florida with a dog. Drove all the way from Illinois with the dog on the tank. I guess the dog really enjoyed touring with his as a habit. The dog laid its torso on the tank with its legs down along both sides of the tank! I think he used a sheep skin type cover for the tank (more comfy for Fido).

I read an article in "Rider" on the Big Bend Nat'l Park. Looked like a great place to ride. The author rode an old style yellow Suoerbike.

+1 Big Bend National Park and the surrounding area. I did it a few years back in March, the evening were cool, but the day time temp was good. We stayed in Apline and did day trips from the there. I've got a some pictures from my Big Bend trip in the members gallery under vduc.

South Padre Island has the best beaches in the state and the warmest
temps in the winter. However Deep South Texas is flat!!! Big Bend is
a great place to ride...also the Texas Hill Country west of Austin would
make a good side trip.

I'll concur with Big Bend, having lived in Houston for nigh on ten years it even beat out the hill country. Of course, it is a desert so be prepared for serious cold at night, even after a hot day. I did mostly mountain (bicycle) and dirt biking the few times I went, but would love to go back again.

Big Bend National Park link
This looks like a good place to find out things about the park.

Id do the hill country - 1431, 337, 336, etc etc.
Big Bend is fun - but the 45mph speed limit in the park is annoying.
It gets pretty cold this time of year - I did a road trip out there about this
time 2 years back.
