Sargent Seat Compared To Corbin Canyon Close
I've sold the Corbin Canyon Close seat from my 1999 Ducati ST2 because it was just too hard on longer rides. (It had been broken in for more than 2,000 miles.)
I like the look of the black Sargent World Sport seat in CarbonFX with red piping. However, if the Sargent seat is as hard as the Corbin, I'll stick with the stock ST2 seat on the bike now.
Have any of you ridden on both seats? Where does the Sargent fall on the hardness scale compared to the Corbin? Do you recommend it, or are there other seats out there which I should look at?

I've owned both. I agree with you, the Corbin is very hard (may break in, or your butt might...) and was too wide at the nose for me.
The Sargent is much less firm, but still more supportive than the stocker. Also, the it has a broad seating area so you don't squiggle off to the side as with the stock seat. I found it exceedingly comfortable for long rides.
Fit and finish on the Sargent is excellent (some say they side gap is a little large, but not on mine), with a dedicated moulded faux-carbon-finer base and nifty storage tube inderneath, plus the excellent swing-out hooks. Very handy with a tail bag.
The Corbin weighs a ton, mostly because of the cobby fiberglass base. The riveted on-cover looks cheesy to me. The Sargent looks like they invested.
They have two cover matrerials, GripTex and CarbonFiber-look. I've owned both. The GripTex has a more open "weave" but is very slippery with synthetic pants. The CF worked better for me.
Take a look at http://rlmotorcycles.com/home/Saddle..._CLEARANCE.htm for a great deal. I've bought all my Sargents (3) from them and right now, they have your seat on sale for $324 shipped. Nice folks.

Thanks for the analysis and the link. That's a great price. I think I'll try a Sargent.

I've owned a Corbin on a '82 BMW R100RS for several years. It was nothing special and Corbin service convinced me to never buy another Corbin product. I owned a Sargent seat on two ('96 & '97) SS's and I found the ride comfortable. Service was excellent.

Sargent
+1 on the Sargent. Have it, on my new ST4s, only 200 miles so far. Also on my Montser and several BMW's. No disappointments on comfort or quality. Never owned a Corbin, but I seldom hear anything good about comfort, quality or Customer "Service". Go with the Sargent.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I've placed an order for the Sargent seat. Thanks again, Paul. RL Motorcycles is shipping the seat tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the air temps this weekend are going to be between -25 and -30 degrees below zero, with wind chills of -60 to -70, so I may have to wait for a test ride.

I just put ~1300 miles on in the past 2 days with one of those seats on my '00 ST2, going from San Diego, CA to San Francisco, and back. The only place on my body that doesn't hurt/need attention is my butt. I never got any sort of discomfort while on it, even pounding out almost 500 straight freeway miles the first day.
Great stuff, and boy am I glad I'm not living in St. Cloud, MN anymore!!!

+ 1 for both R&L & Sargent. Both know how to take care of thier customers in my experience. I needed some of those rubber bumpers on the bottom of the seat & also one of the plastic sleeves that goes over the metal tab. I call Sargent & get a real human being on the phone & tell him what I need. The guy says "no problem I'll send you some". No charge, a couple days later they're in my mail box. I haven't heard too many stories about Corbin like that. Gregg

Back rest available with Sargeant?
I know this thread is months old, but for all those who are recommending Sargeant, do they make a model that allows a small backrest to be attached ala the Corbin Dual Canyon?
I agree on Corbin service, and swore I would never buy another, but need a small backrest for taking my sons on trips. Thanks.
