40-42 mpg

I've owned my '03 ST4s for a month and a half (overall new to the Ducati world) and put just over 2000 miles on it so far. I'm getting 40-42mpg regardless of riding in the city or putting on highway miles.

I'm not a particularly aggressive rider, cranking it up occasionally so, when I hear people talking 50+mpg I begin to wonder if I might have a leak somewhere or that this could be an indicator of something not quite right.

Is this the mpg I should expect?

Customization, I have only had a K&N Air Filter put on the bike and the local performance mechanic says that the rear sprocket has been altered....pretty satisfying gearing, I have to say.

that's about right, I can get from 40-45 depending on how I'm riding.

you most likely would get more on the hwy, top gear - lowrpm



I quit keeping track on mine


I can get 200+ miles per tank - thats what important to me



* most of us prefer 15/42 or 15/43 gearing, stock is 15/38

Thats right and dont forget that in the UK/Europe we talk either Imperial Gallons (Bigger) or Litres.

You will find that as you get to know your engine and how it responds the mileage will improve anyway.

Hmmm, guess it's normal....

But my 2002 ST4s gives 47-50+ on my little 90 mile round trip day for weekday commuting, rarely going slower than 70, mostly 75-80 with a reflashed ECU/K&N/Remus pipes, and 15/43 and always with the bags on. Remember the 1st generation ST does have a smaller frontal area, yours is a little larger

Yet my last 748s got never better than 38mpg.

And for grins on gas mileage, my 996sps changed between 18-28mpg from the race track to bloody back road riding.

Could you get better?
Yes, but at what cost. Pipes/reflash/throttle-body sync/super close valve adjustment/etc.

I haven't seen much better than low to mid 30s on my st3. Not sure if the fat duc caused it to be low but I've since removed it. Haven't ridden it since the removal but hope I get more in line with what you all are seeing (low 40s). Basically if the tank was full, my indicator shows near empty after 100 miles of highway commuting. Seems terrible to me.

My 03 ST4s gets 41-44 around town and commuting. Up to 46 hwy. All stock other than 15/43 gearing.

FatDuc will richen the mixture. The key is tuning the mixture to for a good balance. You should be able to do that with the FatDuc on.

I basically tuned it from about 12 o'clock to about 3 o'clock on the dial and saw about the same mileage between those settings. I removed it b/c I finally did the upgrade of new pipes, DP airbox, and remapped ECU. However, the bike is still down b/c I'm in the process of a few other upgrades so I haven't ridden it since the Fat Duc removal. I'm hoping the mileage increases to the 40s where it should be.

The DP ECU is definitely the better route and allows the most tunability.
