I tried the new Multi when the dealer had one to demo. I just wasn't as impressed as much as I thought I'd be. Not as much power as I thought would be on tap, plus, she semed to have engine vibes a lot more than either my ST2 or ST4s. (Maybe it was a "bad" demo bike?)
It was great to toss my legs over the ST4s when I left the dealer that day. felt like "home".

The whole adventure bike craze reminds me of the SUV fad. Illusions of power on a high riding chassis. Just as is happening the car market, I predict a change in attitudes toward more street biased bikes once folks find that they don't take their adventure bikes off road and get tired of being way up there.
Have a good one.

Hello
One trepidation I would have other than purchase price for "transforming" a Multi is the damn complexity involved with 'em.
I forget how many separate ECU's are on those bikes, but it's just ridiculous for a "touring" motorbike.
I suppose I'm just a dinosaur who's used to a Beemer airhead that can be completely disassembled with the factory toolkit under the seat, and can be coaxed to run on vodka soaked urine if the Dellorto's are richened-up properly.

Different strokes for different folks...
People are sized different, and some bikes just don't fit...
I wanted an ST , sat on it and cramped up , Not the bikes fault...
I will make do with the Multi...
Glad you guys like your bike.
What has Money got to do with it?
You forget how much you paid after a couple of years anyways
If Insurance wasn't such a rip offf up here I would have a fleet of bikes...

A problem with the new Multistrada, aside from the price and complexity mentioned earlier in this thread, is the seat height. It's just a tad too much for some of us; especially so for those of us who don't like to meddle with the engineers' chosen geometry by lowering.
ST's were/are a bit tall too, but manageable. I love my 1198, but a nice, brand new, upgraded ST3 (with the new 848 Streetfighter engine), or ST4 (with the Diavel incarnation of the 11 degree 1198 motor), would be something special.

Said the very same thing a while back and got flamed big time. MTscott makes a good point but the reason that I have some hostillity to the MTS is it robbed me of my 1098/1198/1199 ST

Haha! That seems to have subsided a bit. I quit even peeking in that clubhouse after all the recall threads, the self-locking steering self-locking while running, keyless gas caps not working, missing rear brakes, yada yada.
I'm still holding out hope for something with ST style also. A gentleman's express as opposed to an adventure bike. But then, I'd have to make a serious evaluation of the engine mapping. Like you noted above. I've had my fill of electronic throttles.
Have a good one.

This is the reason I don't have one. I'm just keeping ny eyes pealed for a second ST4 for parts. I'm planning on getting mine to 100k plus. Gonna needs spares perhaps?

Either of those choices would have to be an ST4 variant, unless that 848 has a 3 valve head and I missed that fact : )... Just be’in picky, know what you mean and I’ve been saying the same thing for a long time myself. Bring on the next ST built on the current Superbike chassis. Raise the bars a bit, lower the pegs a bit, add REMOVIBLE hard bags and call it done. In other words, use the same formula as the current Ducati ST bikes. To me, and in keeping with MY impression of the Ducati marquee, that is the ONLY way to go. Leave the VMAX and Adventure Tourer wannabes out of it.

Unless a very nice owner of an unmolested 916 / 996 (red, mono) comes along and wants to work a trade, I intend to keep my ST4s long enough to legitimately post in the vintage section!
