Question 02 v 05 Fork Damper Rods - Same or different ?

This is one for those who have had their front end apart.

I have a set of Goldvalves ready to go in my 05 (had them on the 02 and they were brilliant) I also have the possible luxury of a set of damper rods from an 02 that I could utilise to get the bulk of the work done (machining then fitting of the valves) before pulling the legs out.

Ducati parts manuals for each lists a different number for the damper rod (it looks the same on the schematic) but knowing that Ducati can be (politely) inconsistent with parts numbers I wondered whether any body out there can say whether they are , in reality the same ?

The '05 bikes have different length forks from the '03 and earlier bikes (can't remember if they are longer or shorter) so it would be reasonable to assume that the damper rods are also a different length. So I'd think that your '02 rods won't fit your '05 forks.

I see that you have joined the Scottish Ducati Club Alan. We might meet on one of the club runs as we are hoping to get more events in the N.E. this year.

I think your are right Derek , the later models mount the handlebars above the yoke so it seems very likely the internals will need to be different (probably only the damper rod itself) , shame............

Yes you are right about the SDC and I am hoping to get out on some of the runs although it will be difficult , work wise. Was going to go across to Glasgow for the DG Open Day and SDC Meet&Greet on Sunday until the forecast starting to deterioate.

Would have braved it on the bike but cant really be botherered to spend 5-6 hours in the tin box so will have to try another time (We are away for the AGM in Kinross otherwise would have given that a go)

Hope to meet soon.
