Mirror stalk cracking repair
Does anyone have a grasp on why our mirror stalks crack at the base on the back side? has anyone done a successful fix? My right side is missing a big chunk, the left one is cracking in the same area but hasn't lost any plastic yet. Not only do I not want to pay the $$$ for new ones, I don't want to just watch it happen again.

Jerks in parking lots bumping into them? Do you find them sitting on the lip of the rubber grommet often? I do sometimes, but I know who has hit mine, the Wife and Kids.
Mine also see a lot of hot and cold cycles sitting outside during the work day, but we don't get very high temps here. Basically a few days in the lower 90F per year.
That said, no cracking of the stalk as of yet.
Have a good one.

Who knows. Maybe those Italians overtightened the bolts holding the mirrors down while they were sucking cappuccino on the assembly line. I have the unfortunate experience of having disassembled my mirror for some work and I still can't re-latch the spring that holds the mirror unit to the base & stalk. !@#$.

Obtain some strong cord , make a loop long enough to attach to the spring and feed through the stalk , pull hard until you are able to hook the spring inplace then use ablade to cut the cord and remove.

I believe the OP was talking about the plastic stalks, not the metal base.
Have a good one.
