pads and tires
Hey Guys,
I found the inner front pads are finally close to toast. On our cars with single pistons and my bikes, why is it that the inner pad always wears first?? There are either 53,000mi or at least something more than 35,000mi on them. I have no record of the original owner replacing them, but . . .
So, if anyone needs some, check out the eBay auction number 250967404175. This seller is clearing out Carbone Lorraine pads for $12 per set. It is not clear if this is for both calipers or one. I bought four sets at any rate. If I get enough for 8 calipers by some miracle, I'll sell half of them. The order came to $65 with shipping. No matter how you cut it, it is less than one full set of EBC pads. I didn't want to go that route due to the consensus and MarkST's quite firm assertion that they cause increase brake pulses/shudder.
Also, my rear Angel ST is getting close to toast at almost 10k. Rocky Mtn M/C has the 180 rear on sale for $129:
Pirelli Angel ST Rear Motorcycle Tire | Street Bike | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC
I really wanted to stick with the 170, but over $20 less. I couldn't pass that up either. The front looks like it will go another 10k.
Have a good one.

That's encouraging to read Tony, I hope I get that kind of mileage out of mine.
How do you get on with them ? I only have a rear, and I haven't really been out riding any distance on it yet. I'm wondering how it will perform in the turns, as I use the whole width of my tyres. I'm used to the Power Pure 2CT's.

That's a god deal on the pads Tony! Thanks.
I got 8,000 miles out of my Angels, I will be going back to Michelin. Great sT tire, previous set was a set of PP2's. I like more of a St tire, even if I have too give up a little on the mileage.
Maybe I'll try the road 2's. ymmv.

Hey Tony. That's a great deal on the pads. You should ave enough there to last the life of the bike.
It will be interesting to hear how they work out. I don't feel like searching out the old pulsing threads but did this set of pads that lasted maybe 53000 miles give you the pulsing/ shudder problems?

The Angels took a very long time to show any flatness in the center section. I would attribute some of my mileage to the amount of rain we have here. I get to the edge when I can, but the edges have only a little wear. They have a lot of confidence there. On the recent dry days, they are still happy straight ahead or at any lean angle. In the cold and wet, they haven't given up any grip.
That said, these tires have seen mostly commute miles, all the WOT that I have the opportunity to throw at them in all the gears, and plenty of hard braking. The front has a growing flat spot that I hope to round off with some springtime weather and the new rear.
I've never had sticky tires on my bikes, so I can't really compare. Although, I was never loyal to any particular type until now. For my purposes, the Angels would do me well for the life of the ST.
My rear is starting too look like the picture that Rocking-M posted (the centerline 'eyes' were still visible when his cords appeared). So, I need to have a new one on hand. I might get another 500mi out of it.

You're welcome.
I would really enjoy a set of PPs someday. But seriously, in these parts, there is literally no place other than a rarely empty on-ramp or track to really use them. Though from what I read, ST tires in general don't like the heat developed at the track. Our good twisties are not that great compared to what I see and remember from the East. There roads are either loaded with blind corners and supremely spotty maintenance or are heavily traveled and heavily patrolled. Last summer, I came upon some corners on a nice empty road that were chip sealed, in spots. In one instance, I ended up about a half lane to the outside of where I wanted to be. To the credit of the ST, it just rolled along without drama as usual.
Eastern WA and OR are a different story. I need to get there more often.
For the roads I can get out and ride, a high mileage tire is, sadly, more than capable.

I keep re-reading the auction and wonder how many pads will show up.
I will definitely post up the results. Just waiting for them to arrive. They will be going on immediately. The left, inner pad is just about out of material.
Yes, the worn pads are the OEM Toshiba/Brembos and they did pulse. It was remedied with the spring clip removal the first time and torquing the stem nut the second time the pulsing came back. The original pulsing started at least 10k after I bought the ST.
Someone in the pulsing thread said that they were happy with the Carbone Lorraines. That's is good enough to give them a shot at those prices.
Have a good one.

I love CL's , they give great initial bite and just get stronger.
Have not been able to get them recently and am running Galfer originals at the moment which need to run until the warrnty on the discs expire as it is a condition. Galfer pads are not bad but to be fair I have not put many miles on recently.

That's exactly what Robert said that day we went for a ride.

Gearbox,
Thanks for the info on your experience. The current pads have been feeling a bit wooden lately. Wonder way?
Have a good one.

Too funny. I typically put on about 50mi/day plus grocery runs. I'm keeping an eye on it.
Ummm, so what part of "( both calipers on the dual disc front )( a single caliper on a single disc front )" do you think we are getting??
Have a good one.

Thanks Tony, I just bought 2 sets of those pads. I've used them on my 748/890 track bike and my 996sps, they were great pads, little to no fade, would bounce back fast from heat (track-duties) always a little hard, but powerful grippy pads.
Cheers!
