Fan & Steering Upgrade

Thinking about purchasing the fan upgrade from Desmo Times. Do you think that it makes a big difference with this fan???

Also one other question. I purchased 1" risers recently off of Ebay. I have been looking at the Cycle Cat DBR5 Bar Mounting. If I decided to purchase this can I use the risers with the cycle cat bar?? Or am I wasting my money. Should I try the risers first then go from there??

The fan is a great upgrade whether you install the override switch or not. I can't recommend it enough, it moves more air and keeps the bike cooler. Some folks have had to trim the blades a bit to get a proper fit, well worth the effort.

If you have the money the cycle cat system is bling heaven. Try the risers if you want, they do help some folks enough without needing the cycle cats. I installed the risers, then the heli bar system as the cycle cats were not available for some time.

Good luck no mater which way you decide.

The previous owner of my ST3 installed the Desmo Times fan and switch. I've never had a problem with cooling...lots of air movement with his blade. The over-ride switch is a good idea...when I sit at a light or am in traffic I flip the switch and within seconds the temp starts to drop.

Great investment.

Vinnie R. did a great write-up on a ST4s fan over ride switch installation a while back: Fan Relay bypass question

I followed suit, since I didn't really like LT's set-up. The switch I used was a bit more robust than Vinnie's, I believe, but also obtained from Radio Shack. I installed it on the right hand side, and set a heat-shrink boot over the switch, after filling it with dialectric grease, so as to be reasonably water resistant. Very happy with the result.

I've attached three jpegs, first with the switch I installed vs. the one Vinnie used (according to the part number he gave). Second the full switch system prepared for installation, complete with fuse, and finally the switch installed on my right hand bracket for the brake reservoir. After that, I put the heat-shrink boot over it, with the grease, but somehow don't have a picture of the final product. This spring, I'll redo my electrics and put in one of the Centech AP-2 fuse panels, so that my air horn, heated gear, GPS and other stuff can be handled more elegantly.

Oh, and it works well with the CycleCat risers I installed, just some minor fitment modifications with the reservoir. Both mods highly recommended.

Can't go wrong with his kit. I as well bought both the fan and the switch kit, flawless, and runs considerably cooler when it kicks on....
Though tie the fan main power to a switched 12 volt power!
