ST4s speedo

The Speedo on my ST4s just quit.

I had had it apart to replace the LCD display.

But it worked for a few after the bike was all back together, and for 1.4 miles after filling the bike up. Then it just quit.

Anybody have this issue?

Is it something simple maybe, like the cable or the sender at the front wheel?

Or do I need to replace the speedo like I just had to replace the LCD on this thing?

TIA

What year is your bike - The earlier years had cable drive off the front in which case it could have become disengaged at the top (assuming you have not touched the wheel etc)

The later models had electric pick-up off the back wheel and that would then suggest a bad connection when reinstalling the read-out panel.

BTW Always a good idea to add your model and year to your profile to avoid being constantly asked when raising an issue.

OP: Ditto what Gearbox said about posting the year and model of your ST in your public profile or signature line.

I'm 100% with what Bill and Gearbox said about posting the year and model of your ST in your public profile or signature line.

No, I did not originally post my year,

It is a 2002

But I did ask about the cable and sender at the front wheel.
Yes it is mechanical.

No, not as simple as comming undone at the top, first thing I checked because I just had the cluster apart to replace the LCD part..

Cables and senders have issues?

Or am I screwed?

TIA.

Would you be kind enough to put it in your sig via the quick links drop down menu at the top right of the page under where it says your screen name please.

It is rare for the speedo to have problems so it may be worth removing and refitting the drive at the dial end if it was working fine before you worked on it as it may not be seated correctly.
By pure coincidence the inner cable could be damaged but doubt that as they dont appear to fail very often , especially at your low milage.

Actually they do fail. I had to replace the drive and cable a while back. The lower end can be checked fairly easily.

Have a good one.

Do I have to post a new reply for my changes to show up?

I will check the inner cable first. That is the easiest.

I think it is engaged at top, I did re check that again.

I'll have to do some diagnostics..

If the speed-o worked, and then did not (without taking the front wheel off) then the cable could be toast. Easy to check.
