Fuel Pump Relay

This pass summer my fuel pump relay under the seat went on me. It got so hot that the holder melted and the female connection on the harness has melted some what too. I was able to plug in a new relay but I like to replace the female end but looking at it doesn't look that easy. Anyone have any suggestions as what I should do with it?

Also what would have cause this relay to go like that. Is there a underline problem here that I don't know about??? Anyone else have this problem???

Ed

Over the summer I had to replace the relay and fuel pump on my s2r1k with a little under 3k miles. I was told that this wasn't a common part to go bad but was a one off.

Bandited, I don't understand.

On your 03 ST4s, the fuel pump relay is not under the seat. It is to the left of the headlight under the cowling piece.

... well ... at least mine is

Do you by chance have the ABS version ? There are some unused connections under my seat for that since it is not attached. Could this be what you're looking at ?

I have a 2003 ST4s ABS. Under the seat is the fuel pump relay and the fan relay. Behind the upper fairing on the left below the fuse box is the main relay, the headlight main beam relay and the flasher unit.
I don't know what sort of ST4s you've got

I don't have the ABS but I am sure its under the seat. One of my biggest concerns now is how reliable is my bike for taking out on long trips. I am not a mechanic and if there is any serious problems then I have a real problem!!!!!

My fuel pump relayand my fan relay along with a slightly larger relay, are on the outside of the fuse box.

I'll take a pic later today and post it.

What kind of ST4s do you have ???

as always, it is a possibility I may understand this incorrectly;

the first two pics are relays located near my fusebox

This third pic is of my relays under my seat

after looking at the wiring diagrams, I realize I may be wrong, it shows several brown wires going to the fuel pump relay and one of the relays under the seat has several browns,

.... then what are the relays next to my fuse box ?

all four of these fuses are the same size, type

* added after further investigation

yes, the fuel pump and fan relays are under my seat, it appears the other relays near the fuse box are the main + lights relays (all 4 of these relays are are the same) nestled next to the flashing relay.

I learned somthing about my bike from this thread, good job

.. and Bandited, check my gallery for pics of the brake line extender I got for the Dr Desmo risers.

(earlier thread we discussed about)

a melted relay under the seat ? wtf

never herd of this but I'd say it's serious.

I'm thinking it must have come from the electrical circut itself, I can't see ambient heat melting it and it's no where near the exhaust.

.. perhaps the vertical exhaust header is leaking or needs tightened ?
