ABS control unit
Have a dead ABS control unit on my 2007 ST3S. Ducati lists the part at $2700 !
Any ideas where to look for a used one (did google, ebay)?
Can they be repaired?
Can this Bosch 5M unit be replaced with the smaller (and cheaper) Bosch 9M unit being put on bikes today?

BMW Bosch ABS Pumps Commonly Failing
Maybe someone like this can help you? There's no magic in there, just valves and motors and stuff. If they can remanufacture the car models, the bike parts should be doable.

Paul, neat link! I messed w/ it a bit...click the USA flag. Then I noticed some BMW motorcycle ABS units listed (or pictured).
Maybe they CAN help.
Also, it looks like they have a facility in Taunton, MA.

anyone know if it would be possible to fit an st3/4 abs system to an early model st2? wheel speed sensors, computer, pumps... are mounting points, wiring connections, etc. shared, or are they unique to the 3/4?

Man, you really did luck out by having it covered so far out of warranty!
Who is your dealer? They deserve a good plug.

Hello, Rev.
It would be possible, but a daunting task.
The forks for ABS bikes have an extra lug on the lower left leg for the sensor. Those forks are pretty scarce.
Tach has an extra LED for the ABS system. Left handlebar control unit has a switch to turn ABS on/off. Front left rotor has mounting points for sensor ring, you could drill and tap em' if you had the ring. Both front and rear brakes take special lines, front lines are ridiculously long. Rear wheel needs a sensor ring too. And you need that control unit that fits under the seat that initiated this thread. And the sensors themselves. I think they are the same as speedometer sensors and a couple other uses that Ducati cross-references them on. Supposedly, the ECU is differnt as well, but I think all that it does different is control that extra light on the tach.
Overall, a lot of hard-to-find parts to collect. You might be better off searching for an ABS bike and trading for it.
Hope this helps, or at least illuminates....
