Plumbing GPS Cable
Looking for a source of switched power to connect a relay for GPS power. Would like to run the cable up the left side of the frame to the left grip but will take any recommendations for the right side or . . . . Wire color and location to tap the relay, please.
2006 ST3
Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Curt

Theres a connector with switched power tied up under the instrument panel. It is supplied by a 5A fuse in the fuse box marked "grip heat". You don't need a relay to drive a GPS or other low-powered device.

I found a schematic for my model year; grip heat should have brown/black wires. The search begins this weekend; thanks for the tip regarding grip heat.

I tapped into the 5A grip heat fuse in the left-hand fuse box; switched power as advertised and routed to the GPS. Ram mount uses screws on the clutch lever mount.
Thanks for the help.

I mounted my Garmin Zumo between the handlebars and powered it from the un-switched power available in the fuse box under the cowling. I find having the unit stay on when I turn off the bike more convenient. I don't like to have to wait for it to reboot when the bike is restarted.

But the zumo asks if you want to continue on internal battery when the ignition is turned off

Same with the Nuvi; 3-hr battery life.
