Power Commander III in a ST2?
I can't seem to speak (type) in search language...
Can a Dynojet PCIII-USB be installed in a 2001 Ducati ST2 living in OH and NJ with a California computer in it? Any help / sage advice appreciated. Just trying to figure out what it would take ($$$) to do. Also want to install slip-ons. Would really like a pair of Sta-In-Tunes, but they aint cheap...

Hi,
My ST2 has been running Staintunes since new in 2002 without changing anything, there is however a chip available from Staintune if required.
Check their website.
The first money you should be spending is sorting your front forks & rear shock, in my opinion.
We have plenty of engine & plenty of brakes, but my suspension slows me down when I bumble through corners bumped off line because forks are not supple enough to suck it up.
After that, farkle & exhausts are a must.

I can tell you it can be done, because there's one on my '98 ST2 - which also has FBF's and their chip. I don't have any details, since the original owner had it done - but if you decide to move on it, I can call him and get more info - and the dyno shop that custom mapped his chip is Dyno Solutions in Brookfield, CT. I've never talked to them - thinking they might be useful for info but I don't know for sure.

Change the chip, you don't really need much more than that, along with setting the TPS and doing a sync on the TB's. There are a few chips on ebay for a small performance gain and they will make the bike run better if you change the exhaust and do the air box modifications. I wouldn't waste my money on a PCIII.

Go with th pc3 and have it dyno tuned. This will allow the tuner to match the air fuel ratio needed for the exhaust you are using and the climate that you ride in most often. You will see that the bike will be much more responsive at all throttle positions , cruise better and have more HP and torque. It is worth the money you spend without a doubt.

I sent out a post about this awhile ago. When it came right down to it I was told that a new racing ECU was better then getting a new PC3. I was told in the long run it will work better with the ECU.
I have installed some new slip-ons. Do I really need to make any changes to the bike? It seems to run with the slip-ons.

I disagree.
A ST2 with hi comp pistons, reworked heads might benefit from a pc3.
A stock ST2 with 80 hp with aftermarket pipes will benefit from a properly set up TPS and carb sync and aftermarket chip just fine. With the 1.6 ECU you can adjust the fuel trim manually and get it to run great.

Thanks very much for the replies. Though I'm still not sure what to do... MY question has been answered - it can be done. But should it? Sounds like the ebay chip might be the easiest to do... Agreed about concentrating on the suspension first. We'll see what happens. Thanks again.

My 1998 ST2 ran great with the DP chip that was installed on the bike, along with the DP pipes. I tried the factory chip and it ran really lousy under light driving conditions (around town/decel/etc). And I sis richen the trim pot, but it was still very lean. Ran OK under acceleration. I couldn't wait to get back home to put the DP ship back in it.
I believe that a PCIII would be a good item for a ST2, but it would need to be dyno'd to be set up properly.
