ABS Question
I have a 2007 ST3s ABS. The ABS seems to me to not be working properly but since this was my first bike with ABS I thought I would ask the forum. Under hard braking on choppy pavement or anything with reduced traction i.e. big white arrows on the road surface etc the front brake will release momentarily when it senses a skid and then then grab again. While in most cases this is fine if it only happens once but I have had situations where the ABS has released brake pressure then applied it again and then released it again. The ABS did not pulse the brake but rather released brake pressure and then reapplied it. This has blown more than a few corners for me to where now when doing spirited riding I turn the ABS off. The yellow warning light is annoying but my safety is more important. Has anyone had this issue?

Hello
I have an earlier model of the ABS system, an '03 ST4S, and I have really never even noticed it unless I was doing something to intentially accentuate it.
Maybe Ducati changed the parameters of the system, but I have never been tempted to turn mine off.

I recently had a problem w/ my 07 so i took it in and my tech checked and told me the black pump box under the seat went out.He told me that this is very unusual and that they normally dont go out.The service manager (cinder) called ducati and spoke to the head dept. guy there that she know's and w/ no warrenty gave me a free part ABS Pump, there feaking $$$,hope it's not your pump, maybe check your brakes, pads and all, lines etc. or have a tech look at it,good luck bro.

I've had mine do what you describe only a couple of times. Both were under condition where I think it would be considered normal. Like where the front wheel was hitting a series of big bumps that were causing the wheel to be bounced severely. On wet or simply slippery conditions it has responded as you would expect with a mild rapid pulsing. As Guido said, normally I don't even know its there.

No problem here with the 03 model. I have never felt the front come on at all but the rear does occasionally as would be expected. What you describe sounds like my ford ranger pickup. Over bumps and white lines it will come off and on and seems very sensitive. The other work vehicle driver had the same problem and didn't like it so they adjusted the sensitivity and his rarely comes on now.
feels really weird but I am used to it now. Maybe the Ducati is adjustable?? Maybe not and you do need a new part. Either way, if you are not used to ABS I think it would be hard to know if its normal or not so a mechanic would be the best person to take it for a spin to check.

Thanks for the insight. All the lines and the pads are good. I will have a dealer check the pump. I have an extended warranty until 6/2013 so I should be good. Covered the engine rebuild after a main bearing failed.

Yikes main bearing failure on an '07!
There's gotta be a story there, please do tell.
