Ducati 1.6M ECU
Are all of these the same? I have seen them listed for a couple different bikes. Is it just the chip that is needed for say a st4 or a st2? My understanding is they are compatible. Anyone know for sure?

Not sure about that. Are you in need of an eprom for your ride?

No, looking at a possible ECU problem and was wondering if the basic ECU's are the same. I have chips.

The answer is yes!
A buddy brought me his ST, diagnoses by the dealer with a bad ECU. I managed to get the bike running after tending to some other maintenance problems with my spare ECU and his stock chip. I reinstalled the "bad" one and it started right up, now on to more service work on his bike.

Does anyone know where I can lay hands on a stock ST2 eprom? I'm getting 40mpg under very conservative riding conditions; a far cry from the 55mpg I got on my 907...Also, the idle mix is turned all the way down just to keep the backfiring minimized. It's a long story posted elswhere. For now, it looks like the aftermarket chip is just too rich.

That's the same chip Max sent me and it got me through emissions, it is leaner than the others I have, could tell by the popping in the intakes.
I don't think the ST's are particularly good on fuel mileage anyway. 44-46 seems to be maybe the best possible it seems to me.
Yes, Max, I also knew all the 1.6 ecu were the same, even from Guzzi's and others. It doesn't care how many cams, just when to fire and how much fuel and if it needs a cooling fan or not.
Put in the right chip for the model, and Go.

That is a stock chip! I would suggest a TPS reset and synchronizing the throttle bodies to get it running correctly.

Thanks for the chip verification; I was hoping it was stock, but wasn't sure...Mileage is the only real issue. My popping/caughing was due to the idle mix being set way-rich. Once I leaned it out, it quit. There's still a slight 'stumble' on the roll-down (high rpm's, no throttle, deceleration...) but nothing to speak of. My guess was the previous owner put carbon cans on, and richened the idle mix, but didn't reset before switiching the cans back to stock and selling it.
Where do you hook up the meter to check the TPS voltages? I read the Bike-Boy article, but couldn't figure it out. Must be a good place to use as a test point...?
