Cold weather running

I'm wondering how others bikes run in the cold. As the temperatures have been dropping, my ST2 has been running quite a bit better. At 40 deg F, the front tire comes off the ground under normal acceleration without dropping the clutch. That just does not happen when the temperatures are warmer. I'm wondering if this is typical for others.

Sure. The cooler denser air will supply more oxygen and you'll get more fuel when the air temperature sensor signals the ECU to supply more fuel. More fuel plus more air equals more power.

Your gas mileage will drop, however.

It depends. Once it gets too cold, the engine won't stay warm enough. I usually add some duct tape to the right side of the radiator in the winter when the throttle response drops off.

Yes, though. Fall is primetime riding weather and scenery.

Have a good one.

Sweet. I didn't realize the ECU factors in air temp. Thought it just looked at pressure. Suddenly turbo intercoolers make a lot more sense.

5 "gazintas" for the older ECU's:

TPS
Barometric pressure
Air Temp
Engine (coolant) temp
Engine position (timing/RPM)

Add O2 on the newer machines for the 6th input.

And your probably running a bit rich in the warmer temps, the mapping or set up not being perfect.
