Decided to tackle another lighting project. Being pretty happy with the
results of the Bi-Xenon retrofit for the headlight, I wanted to light things
up a bit for the back. The only options that I ran across for the pre-
facelift (not sure if there was a redesign for the facelifted) were the DD
LED board, and those that put an LED bulb. Seeing that there are so many
other nice options out there for other bikes, I decided to do something a
little different.
I liked the option of the 3 quick flashes when hitting the brakelights. I
know it will probably annoy some people, but I rather be seen and every
little bit helps. I know there are modules out there that can be attached
to the stock harness to get the 3 flashes, but I wanted something
different.
Seeing the reviews on the motodynamics products, I decided to give their
LED taillights a try. There was nothing made for our bikes, so I went with
something as close as possible to the lines of the bike. I decided on the
Monster 94-08 Sequential Tail in Smoke V2.
Can be found here for $75 and about $85 shipped to the door:

There are some cheaper alternatives on eBay, but decided against it.
When it finally arrived at the door, I realized it was a bit smaller than
what the original was, but would blend in a bit since it has a darker lens.
It doesn't stick out too much when mounted.
This took me a few hours as it is a bitch to get to everything. Removed
the fairings, dropped the pannier brackets, and a lot of misc other things.
I had to redrill the piece that held the original taillight in place since the
replacement was slightly narrower. Wiring was very straight forward and
I spliced the signal wires with T-Taps to run a signal to the signals on the
new taillight unit.
I think it gives it a nice look, granted there is a gap around the taillight,
but not too bad of a price to pay for better lighting. Let me know what
you think. I know it may be a love or hate ordeal.
Here is a quick video of them in action.
Looking through the videos, I guess someone else had the same idea as well:
