Button on Fuel Tank, what is it?
Hey folks, this may seem like a noobie question ( which would make sense since this is my first Ducati, or fuel injected bike for that matter ). On my '01 ST4 there is this button on the front right side of my fuel tank, and I have looked in the manual and googled the crap out of it but haven't found the faintest clue as to what this button does!! I know I can get an answer if I ask, so here it is.

It looks like the rod which comes out to lock your steering in place when you turn the ignition swith to "L". Try it and see what happens.

It's not that, I've seen that before when I used the lock function on my bike. This is a button for a digital device somewhere. It is similar to the trip meter reset button. It is hard to see in the picture, I could probably get a better one, but that was the best lighting I had at the time.

No idea... Not OEM. My first thought was the same as Bill's, steering lock. Can't really tell form the pic. Lift the tank and see. Does it have wires you can follow? Maybe the previous owner had heated clothing and this is the (on/off or temp) control he installed for that.
Maybe a garage door opener that was hardwired in?

Now we know where it is situated you need to get a closer shot so that we see what it is.

If it goes away when you turn the ignition on, it's the as mentioned steering lock.

Aha that's better.
Well I've absolutely no idea, unless it's for a Desmo Times fan setup.
If it were me I would, and in this order...
1) Ask the previous owner (if that is possible)
2) Press it and see what happens.
3) Take the tank/ignition cover off and see where the wiring (if any there at all) goes.
Actually I'd probably do 2) first, and then 3) and I'd most likely not even bother with 1).

I tried pressing it and noticed nothing obvious. I just bought it last week, and luckily the previous owner was really cool and said if I had any questions I could ask. So i'll probably just ask him. I'm surprised it's not something standard!
