907 Music vs. ST2,3 or 4
Now that my 907's have sunk the hook I am now shopping for a ST and one of the considerations is the exhaust note. I often heard, and I agree, that the 907's two valve setup produces an awesome sound. I'm hooked on that tune and assume that the ST2 would be similar. Given the same exhaust systems do the ST3 and 4 sound appreciably different given their different valve configurations?
Any opinions?

To my ear, my desmotre does not sound the same as a desmoduo or a desmoquattro, which both sound deeper and louder at idle and on the throttle IMO. But, it does sound very good, especially when uncorked.

Great? Yes. Different? Also Yes.
I had a 907 for 6yrs, and miss it terribly. But, I just replaced it with an ST2. The additional 40cc makes the ST a bit louder, but has that same note I remember from the 907. When I hear a -3 or -4 running, I can tell the difference. Both of mine had and have the OEM cans. I took the stuffing out of the 907 for even more volume, and a bit more punch. The ST2 has plenty of that with the stuffing in. I love that 2V water-cooled combination...One on e-bay with 9hrs. left for ~$2k

True dat. And they all sound like Ducati 90* L-twins, which I'd like to think have a distinctive sound in the world of twins. Heard a twin rumbling up the road the other night and thought it was a RC51. Turned out to be an Aprilia superbike, rsv whatever. But, I knew it wasn't a Ducati just from the sound. One day, I'd like to put my ear to the test, ie "blindfold" myself and listen to numerous twins and see if I can select the Ducati.

yaknowit!!!
Even my wife can pick us out...she'll say, "here comes a ducati" and it'll be a monster or SS for sure. When I plunked the starter on the ST for the first time, the music returned after a 7 year hiatus...much too long.

There's just something I like better about the 2V exhaust tone over the 4V. Sure the 4V sounds really good, too, but I prefer the sweeter, warmer tone of the 2V.....the small 4V at rpms from 8000-12k is unlike any of them and nearly orgasmic.
They are all great - just from different sections of the orchestra.

In my opinion I like the sound of my 3V better than the 4V. But the little air cooled 2V Monster with the full Arrow exhaust is the best. Maybe it's the way Arrow uses an X like crossover just before the mufflers but the sound is pure music to me.

I love the sound from all the ducks but I think the air cooled lumps sound best. When I had the Hyper and the 1098 in the garage at the same time both with Termi's I thought the Hyper sounded just a little better.....
