Broken speedo drive (ST2), fixable?
Started my ST2 today for the first time this year, started right up, BUT the speedo doesn't work (it worked when I put it away).
So, turns out the speed drive is blocked.
Anyone ever fix one/take it apart?
Thanks,
Tom

Not on a Ducati, but I have worked on other cable speedo systems, and yes, some can come apart and can be serviced somewhat. When's the last time it was lubed?

Don't recall, but it's full of grease.
Anyway, found one on EBAY for $30 from a guy I've bought other stuff from, so I should be set.
Just wondering how to take it apart, guess I'll start with the roll-pin.
Thanks,
Tom

Yes, you have to extract the roll pin.
Mine went out last year. I saw some used ones and just didn't want to risk another failure with a used part. 500mi with a bicycle speedo once was enough.
The drive gear on the new one appeared to be plastic/nylon and not packed well with grease. I added quite a bit of moly. I've heard these are a common failure item and can see why.
BTW, mine finally broke when rolling the ST backwards. If you were putting yours away, that might have done it.
Have a good one.

Thanks.
Once the roll pin is removed, do you just pull the guts out or what?

I saw a diagram somewhere for it when I was considering what to do with mine. But, I believe the threaded brass output shaft just pulls out.
Have a good one.

Got it apart, the output shaft was frozen which wercked the plastic drive gear. So I'll just re-install it without the gear while waiting for the one I bought to arrive.

Bummer. That is what I did, just removed the cable and ran that way for a few weeks. The crazy part was that 64mph+ was the high limit of the bicycle speedo. It would stop recording mileage also, so I was guessing and filling up early. Plus the small update lag made for pure enjoyment once the speedo was fixed.
Have a good one.
