Now that I am finished with mine I should be able to come give you a hand

I also had loose sidestand bolts on my bike too. Something to keep an eye on I guess.

va duc,

Much appreciated. When I get started in on the valves I may give you a shout. And considering my workspace, "winter maintenance" is certainly apropos given the temperatures inside the shed.

Forks shipped and getting ready to order some Nichols bolts.

Cheers

I'm embarrassed to say I let my belts go 13 years instead of 2 years. The good news is the belts still looked great when I removed the covers last night. The scary part was the tension way off. So loose they could have easily slipped a tooth. Disaster avoided! From now on I will check tension every year and change belts every two!

I guess the heat cycles and stresses caused the belts to stretch.

MarkST asked how far out adjustment the belts were. The vertical cylinder was loose enough to do a little flapping, but not enough to contact the covers. The horizontal cylinder was fine. The engine was running fine with that adjustment. I'm sure there was nothing wrong with the belts. I suspect I simply left the horizontal one a tad loose when I installed it last year.
I don't use anything special to adjust them. I just put them on and tighten them where I think they ought to be. Tight enough to not flap. Not too tight as to stretch them. Quality of the CA Cycleworks belts is excellent - better than OEM, probably. Next year I'll put another set on.

It takes longer to uncover the belts than it does to change them.

I am in process with my ST3 24k maintenance. Belts are done, brake and clutch fluids are fresh, new oil and filter plus a new fuel filter and o-ring. I checked teh valves and need to replace the horiz exhaust closer, otherwise everything looks pretty tight. Once its all said and done I wil need a new rear Pilot Road 2CT and I'm good to go.
Alas the weather down here has been beautiful, but the bike is in parts so no riding for me.
