ST3 engine generator case same as ST4?
Hi all,
I need the help of your collective experience.
I may have to replace the left-side generator case on a 2004 ST3. Looking at Ducati Omaha's part list, it is either part number 242.2.062.1A or 242.2.038.22B - both of which are no longer avail.
On eBay there is a ST4 generator cover which looks to my very untrained eye to be identical. The part number is 242.2.034.1A.
Are these the same? Would it fit?
Thanks in advance,
Ray

What about another year ST3 alternator cover? The ST3 covers should all be the same 2004 - 2007. If you can find a parts diagram for a 916 engine you might be able to make a better evaluation of the ST4 cover, but from what I've seen of *996 ST4s* covers, they look the same as ST3 covers. If you buy it and it doesn't fit, you can resell it.

True - that's what I was thinking as well.
Everyone should get the desmotimes case saver to avoid your chain eating a hole in the case! I bought one too late.

Ray,
You mention "eating a hole in the case". Do you think this was from running with your chain too loose? Or did your chain break, adn cause damage?

Definately from the chain too loose. Somehow my chain tensioner came completely loose and the left end of the swing arm self-destructed during the extra chain play.
I've just finished replacing the swing arm, chain and sprockets, and added a case saver for good measure.
I also ended up with a small hole on seam of the generator case. I've used the Ducati Threebond to fill it, and so far it seems to be holding fine.
Nice unexpected winter project.
