Are all tank bags the same?

I am looking to buy a tank bag for my ST3, I am looking at Marsee for about $150. Am I wasting money by looking at high dollar bags? Should I just buy a Cargo Performance Luggage for $25 on sale Jan 1st?

Are you looking for a large or small tank bag? I have found the larger style can inhibit your view of gauges etc & you have to remove them when refuelling.
Have you considered a medium sized seat bag, thats what I am considering for medium tours. Otherwise a small magnetic tank bag that only takes up a little bit of room & holds wallet, phone etc.

A word of caution: magnets and bank/credit cards don't mix (don't ask me how I know). I was so fed up of being cautious not to put my wallet near the magnets that I bought a non-magnetic tank bag that attaches to a ring around the filler cap. It's a bag from Bags Connection and I'm very happy with it.

Cheers,
Mark

I am looking for a bag on the small side. Good point about credit cards & magnets.

Good point, I have only ever used the larger style tank bag, so wallett wasn't close to magnets, but I can see a problem with a smaller one.
Have you got a link to this bag you mention, & does it interfere with refuelling?

Thanks,

Craig

I have three magnetic bags and find that I prefer the smallest one and only use the larger bags if I really need the extra space. I'd gladly trade my largest tank bag for a tail-bag as it makes spirited riding difficult.

I've been using a mini Nelson-Rigg magnetic bag for several years and have been pleasantly surprised at how much I like it. I'd buy another one. I use it on my '05 SS1000DS and my '02 998S Bayliss.

Hey Mark,
(Only I know your secret name!) The Marsee that I have and you've seen is ugly as sin, but quite functional. The Cortech mini is nice, but small. The larger Cortech is my personal favorite. I've got one on the Beemer and on the Cagiva. Well made, and big enough to carry more than your wallet. I sure like the magnetic ones more than the strap ons. ( No, not THAT strap on!) BTW, the DP one that's on my Multi is WAY overpriced, and not as nicely done as the Cortechs.

I have a Marsee magnetic tank bag and I really like it.

But when expanded it does block your view of the gauges. It is a perfect fit for the ST tank.
