The number of animals I have nailed while on a bike I would guess is.....

1 squirrel, 2 turkey (wild), 1 dog (sorry) 3 snakes, 2 turtles, 2 birds of flight, 5 bats, 2 raccoons, and a partridge in a pear tree.

A number of those I can see as understandable, but its not like a turtle darted out in front of you.

My sentiments exactly. Sounds to me by the title of your post, you don't get a thrill out of killing them do you? I hope not. I count one animal in my years of riding, I clipped a small dog just barely and I slowed to see that it was OK before driving off. I know common sense dictates that if the animal is small enough, its wiser to not change course because making a sudden turning movement can put you in trouble. However, if the animal is big and you have an opportunity to weave then do it, otherwise you will be going for another kind of ride.

I was feeling silly for thinking he had an animal fetish, now that would be disturbing, and awkward.

Can tree hugger's and road killers unite?

A lot depends where you ride, how long you have ridden, and when you ride. For years, I have enjoyed night riding mountain back roads. As a result I have developed cravings for turtle and bat. In fact, at the top of the list is condor. Its not that I enjoy the pain of animal impact, or loss of one of God's creatures. But when everything goes to hell, at least I know how to eat. In fact, if push came to shove, I would consider the sword to spear some pussy.

I heard from Keith Code that if you are about to hit a deer, put your head down and plow through it.

I came around a corner at about 40 mph, startled a young deer and instead of it running into the woods away from me it ran towards me trying to cross ahead of my line. I was on the brakes about as hard as I could have been and moving towards the side of the road as quickly as I could but just couldnt change what was going to happen. It just kept running full speed ... right .. into .. the ... radiator on the bike and at about the same time I just had a reflex and kicked it in the chest/armpit. It bounced, rolled and landed sitting on it ass in the middle of the road directly next to my buddy that was following me. I stopped with no damagae (used to have a picture somewhere of the radiator bracket holding onto some deer hair) put the bike on the kick and started to walk towards the deer still sitting in the road. My buddy clapped his hands and gave a yell and it jumped up running into the woods. The direction it should have gone the first time. So now my buddy is in complete shock yelling " WTF , WTF !! ". The week before he was riding when a deer ran into the side of HIM !! Both deer knocked sorta semi unconsious, both bikes and riders undamaged.

(edit) - Oh , do these count? The animals hit us ... lol
