I wave to everyone; but if I'm holding the clutch in traffic I nod, which in NYC is almost always.

I used to wave to everyone first. After about two weeks of getting shunned by all but about 2 Harley riders, I've stopped waving to guys on cruisers, even if they wave first.

I wave (or head nod when needed) to everyone, and every cop has waved back, so far. The last one seemed a little stunned by it and took him a few moments to wave. He had the look of "did he really just give 'the wave' to a cop?"

Around here, the cop H-Ds are hard to distinguish from the standard ones, and some of the staties use BMWs. So, it is hard to tell if it is officer-panties-in-a-bunch or not.
Maybe it is just a local issue. Living next to one for several years, I heard many, many stories. 90% of the buddies that would hang out with him had serious size defiency issues.
Have a good one.
