Your choice in tires.

What is your choice of street/track day tires. I'm talking about a rider that is going to ride on the street mostly and ride an occasional track day?
Avon
Bridgestone
Dunlop
Metzler
Michelin
Pirelli
Shinko
Not on the list.

Michelin Pilot Powers, for sure. Inexpensive, predictable, durable. I can run 1:17s at BHF for 2 straight days @ around 240.00 a set. When they finally start to slide, they do so in a smooth, predictable manner, after which, they make excellent street only tires...

Excellent tyre however we pay over $500 (approx $325 u.s.) a set in Oz. Seems when in comes to anything, someone has their hand in your pocket down here. You guys are really fortunate to live in the States, EVERYTHING seems so inexpensive.

Depends on the bike.

I prefer Avons on my LeMans, and generally PP 2CTs on the Ducatis, though I currently have a set of BT016s on the 999R. They're OK, but if they don't give me more miles than the PPs (2500 or so), I'll go back to the PPs.

Pirellis are OK, but I prefer the PPs, especially in the wet.

On a serious note - the Pilot Powers rock. On the track they provide a ton of grip and heat up in no time. The same can be said for the street.

I am on my second set of Avon Storms on my 999...and yes, they are a sport-touring compound. I enjoy a fairly spirited back road ride, and did a 2-day track day last September on them. I didn't have any issues, but I am a track noobie. I get a few more miles out of the Avons than I did with the Pirelli Diablos, Pilot Powers, or Pilot Sports.
