If Italian Bikes did not exist...
Which of the other major manufacturers would you choose?

I was a Guzzi guy when BMW and Ducati were too expensive. Then a BMW guy when Ducati were not reliable. But, now I'm switched to Ducati because BMW is just too expensive. No Ducati? I'd go with a Triumph, maybe Tiger or Sprint.

It actually came down to a tough decision for me when moving from japanese cruiser to ST bike between the finalists in my search - an '05 Triumph Sprint ST and '05 Ducati ST3. I can't tell exactly why the Ducati won - it seems to have been an intangible "feeling". I took a demo ride on the Sprint (great ST bike) and the following weekend I managed to get a demo ride on an ST3 and bought it on the spot. I think an '02 VFR was a distant third and I couldn't find one I thought was priced right. Other bikes I had checked out and thought about briefly were the ST1300 (just too big and unsporty IMO) and the FJR1300 (nice on paper but pricey and I couldn't get a test ride). I am very happy with my decision.

Speed triple. Easy choice for me - it's one of the only bikes out right now that stirs me emotionally.

I almost bought a BMW before deciding on my Ducati. I was looking for something totally different from my Suzuki TL1000R, and almost bought a BMW R1150 Rockster...Then I visited my Ducati dealership before I was getting ready to lay the money down on that bike and put the money on the ST3...

My sporty side would opt for the Yamaha R1 since my dream machine (Agusta F4 Tamburini...and you thought Beemers were expensive) is Italian as well. Since I'm currently an ST guy and like to go the distance in style and relative comfort, I'd have to say the new upcoming BMW K1200GT would do just fine, albeit pricy!

Ciao!
PS...I can still drink all that good Italian wine...right?
