Let's start the new forum off with a controversial topic...

Poll: Terblanche designs -- good? bad? ugly? Ter-who? Bring back Tamburini? Hire Glynn Kerr?

Oops -- typo

I meant "Hypermotard", not "Hypersport."

I like most of his work, 999 my fav., Multi. OK. I also like the supersports. IMHO - he's doing a good job at Ducati....*BUT* you can't beat the design of the MV's.

Yeah, I's a troublemaker. But I figured -- let's let people get it out of their systems early. I'll monitor the posts and make sure no one gets nasty, and when the poll closes next month I'll put up a summary and then dump the thread. It'll come up again, have no fear, but this is the first and last time I start it. Promise.

The 916 is great!

That being said the old guys need to lighten up a little and quit whining.

Pierre has great designs & the new bikes are innovative.

geez, why don't you start it off with a tire poll or an oil poll?

Good start Rob.

I wish ducati would have learned a lesson from Porsche, when they decided to kill the 911, and focus on the 944-968-928 series. They saw the error of their ways and decided instead to refine the 911 continously and constantly improve it, without changing the classic styling to drastically over the years.

This is what ducati should have done IMHO.

Imagine a 999 with some of the styling cues of the old 916, but with better handling, and the newer improved engine design.

I'm certain they would have sold more bikes, then the current 749-999 bikes.

That's just my 2cents.

I think you have an extremely interesting example here with the 911. And what a spanking the Porsche management took over that knuckle headed decision. Factually, it almost put the Porsche company out of business. They were about 90 days from going belly up according to insiders.

Personally I liked the 928 very much, but it was obvious to many that 911 people had a particular idea of 'Porsche' and that was the 911. When management doesn't listen to the customers, or in the case of the 999, they leave them behind, they really risk disaster.

Ducati, like Porsche, has a narrow customer base ( especially the Superbikes, here ) and they can't fcuk it up with a goofy design. "Know thy Customer" is supposed to be carved in stone at every business, isn't it ?

Porsche 911-928; great example and thank you for bringing it up.

928 S4.....Yummmmmmmmmmmmm.....what an awesome car...1 of very few Porsche's I would love to own...along with a 356 Speedster and a 959 and then after those 3....I think I'd take an early 90's 911!
