Frame finishing options
I am preparing to refinish my frame to complement the color scheme I now have on my 2000 996. I had originally planned on having it plated in Black Chrome, but discovered that the finish is not as durable as regular chrome.
Now, I have seen a large variance of opinions on what should and shouldn't be done to Ducati's from the members of this fine establishment. I am for the most part, set on what I want to do, but I would like to hear what you think would look, work, perform, and last the best.
Your opinions are valued, and I'd really like to generate some positive input and ideas that perhaps I hadn't thought of.
View the video file I have attached and let me know what you think. I did a test section of Alsa's chrome paint in Black Chrome on the frame starting under the fuel tank and stopping at the end of the airbox. The original Charcoal gray can be seen at either end for reference. The actual finish of this process is much better than seen here, but the work involved warrants a less involved (and expensive) trial.

Go for a semi-metallic black powdercoat or basecoat clearcoat. I didn't care for the black chrome. You really cant tell its there and I think that black would blend in with your paint scheme better.

I'd go black of some variety (I'd have to look in person to get more specific) or color match the body work.

Here's some photos to better view the difference. The black chrome is actually chrome paint sprayed over gloss black basecoat & clearcoat that has to be colorsanded and buffed to perfection (the only way to achieve maximum reflectivity). Of course, like I stated, this test section does not represent the full process or finish. It basically will look like black with clear and have the mirror image provided by chrome that will appear at certain angles.
The finish I choose will also be applied to my subframe, wheels, fork lowers, lower triple clamp, headlight housing, and possibly the polished swingarm.

powder coating is the way to go man. It is tough there is no upkeep and it looks good. Also available in just about any color.

I recomend you would loose that nail polish color on that bike first, before ruining anything else on that
Italian machine
and by the looks of the circus color scheme, stop trying to give advice on things you know nothing about!
