Would you buy a V4 Ducati superbike?
Would you buy a V4 Ducati if it superceded the 1198 as the mainstream superbike. Assuming it retained the 90 deg cylinder angle, desmo valves, single pin crank, dry clutch, underseat exhaust etc. This type of motor was used in the Desmosedici but that wasn't a mainstream bike. This question came up when I was talking to my fellow Duc riding mates the other day. I am really interested to see what the reaction is.

I would buy a V-4 Ducati if the bike was good. I wouldn't buy it just because it was a Ducati or just because it shared architecture with the GP bike, but I wouldn't say no because it wasn't a twin.

I would consider it just like rcrob said.
Look at how solid the RSV4 is as a track bike and a street bike....and Aprila was a big twin bike company.
I think people will buy it if it is good and affordable. The Desmo RR was really cool...but close to 80 grand and limited production make is hard to buy for the average Joe and or ride in case of a mishap.
The RSV4 is at a good price for the base and the Factory version...so if Ducati or any other manufacturer can do the same, I would think it would be well received.
I don't think 90 degrees is ideal for a V4. The RSV4 is a 65 degree, the Honda VFR800 is a 90 degree, RC45 is a 90 degree, RC30 is a 90 degree. I just think it is the most popular set up.

Yes, but not because it's a Ducati. I always wanted a V4 sportbike.

Really? There was actually a debate on engine configuration?
So, a Ferrari isn't a Ferrari unless it has 12 cylinders and the D16 isn't a Ducati because it has 4 cylinders.
Sheesh, I thought it was only the Harley crowd that has some issue with engine configuration.
1, 2, 3, 4, or 6 cylinders matters little to me. There are so many other factors that define the brand that I find to be for more important.

for racing I agree.
Twins are great for the street and average riders.
V4 is great for racing because you dont need a different rulebook when racing the I4 bikes.

one of the advantages of a v-4 65 degree or less than 90 degrees is that it allows for better packaging, mass centralization, and shorter wheelbase.
