adjust weber without guage

I need help with the weber on my 906 Paso. I am wondering if anyone can offer any info on how to tune the carb without a vacuum guage or other apparatus . Just looking for a good starting point and can tune by ear from there. Please keep the "you should buy" comments to youself, I'm not interested in buying hundreds of dollars worth of parts and tools when all I need to do is turn a needle jet.
