The reputation system at the Ducati.ms Community is a means by which members can reward those that contribute on a regular basis, and penalize those that endlessly spam and troll the forums. In the future members with high rank may gain access to additional board features or even be eligible for other Ducati.ms perks.
You give positive or negative reputation to a member by clicking on the icon below the user's avatar (next to the online/offline icon). A small window will open with 2 choices (approve or disapprove) and an area to leave a comment. Members may leave comments when they give reputation, but the comments will be anonymous. You can view your current reputation points in the upper right of the comments table. You may view reputation information by accessing your User CP area.
There are two parts to the system, your reputation altering power and your reputation level. Rep altering power is how much you can add (or subtract) from another person's reputation level when you place a vote. Your reputation level is simply your current standing within the community based on member voting.
Here's the basis for how many points you contribute when leaving positive rep. When you leave negative rep it is tallied as 1/2 your total rep altering power.:
* For every 365 days or membership, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
* For every 1000 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
* For every 100 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For example: if a member has 3546 post, has been a member for 2.5 years, and has a current reputation of 220 their reputation altering power would be 7 points. Thus if this person gave positive rep to someone they would alter that member's rep standing by 7 points. When leaving negative rep they would alter that member's rep standing by -4 points.
* A user may only give rep (pos or neg) 5 times in each 24 hour period.
* A user must give rep (pos or neg) to 20 other members before doing so again on the same member.
For example: a member can only give reputation to the same member every 4th day assuming they use all 5 rep clicks each day. This keeps users from spamming reputation on one another.
All members start with a reputation of 0. Only new members have a reputation altering power of 0. All other members have reputation altering power based on the values and example calculation above. Warning: If your reputation level ever falls below 0 you have no reputation altering power until you get it back to 0. So please contribute to the site, don't spam, and don't be pompus jerk.
There are 23 levels of reputation ranging from -50,000 points to +50,000 points with 0 being the starting point. The advancement (positive and negative) is not linear, but geometric (ie. 0, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320, 640, 1280, 2500, 5000, 15000, 50000)
NOTE: All numerical values of the reputation system are subject to change without notice, but the general system works as described above.
