Powder coating a gas tank?

Went to a local bike night last week in my neck of the woods and one of the guys asked if I was going to do anything with the bike over the winter. I mentioned that I had purchased a 749R tank, but where my S is yellow, the tank is green. The guy suggested powder coating the tank instead of painting.

Intrigued, I made some phone calls. Stripped and double coated (color and gloss), anywhere from $125-200. Painted, I am looking at $400+.

Anyone ever powder coat a gas tank and what was the end result? Other than having to bake off the powder coat for another color change, what are the possible pluses and minuses?

Thanks in advance,
Charles
