Corpus Christi
Well it's that time of the year again when one starts to dream of another epic trip.
2009 was Montana and the Lolo pass over to Portland Oregon, following the Columbia River Gorge, then over to Crescent City California, and down the coast to San Francisco, via the legendary Redwood Hwy (101).
I enjoyed the trip so much in 2009 I decided to do it with a little more speed this time and invited a few other Ducs along. For 2010 the goal was the Mexico boarder, and two of us made it all the way. We did take some time out to enjoy San Diego before we made it to Tecate Mexico. The return trip was thru Las Vegas, then Wendover Utah (the salt flats), Hells Canyon Oregon, and spent the evening of the July 4th watching the fire works on the beach in Coure D’Alene.
For 2011 I’m thinking Corpus Christi Texas in mid August. Seeing as I will be riding from Edmonton Canada, I hope to follow the Rocky Mountains as far south as possible ( Salt Lake City), then the Grand Canyon, over to Albuquerque, then swing south East to Corpus Christi, and of course down to the southern most points in the western USA.
So if any of you guys know of stuff we should see, or roads we should ride, any information would be appreciated.

I don't think you want to be anywhere near the Gulf coast in mid August, where both the temps and the humidity routinely approach the "100" mark.

I live in texas and have been to corpus many times, august is the absolute worst time of year to ride down here. the air is heavy and hot, air temp in the 110s on the roads your probably over 120s, even at speed, the air is so hot it feels like a hair dryer. and there is nothing going on, even texans think its to hot to do anything in august
in my opinion the best time of year to come to texas is late september-early november. your looking at clear skys, temps from the 60s to low 80s, plus you have all kinds of little festivals going on all over the state, the state fair is huge, and its still warm enough to go to the beach

Take it from another Texan. You don't want to do Corpus in August. Actually, I say don't do Corpus anytime. Flat as a pancake, no trees, ugly.
Try coming down Missouri, Arkansas, East Texas, but still avoid June through August.

Believe these guys, you don't want to be anywhere near CC, or even Texas as a whole in August!
My parents live in Corpus and August is HELL!

Yet another ornery Texan weighing in: I was raised & rode since middle school in the South Texas heat & humidity, with many happy Summer jaunts between San Antonio and Padre Island. I say Go For It!
Aviso: avoid urban rush hour traffic since lane-splitting is illegal in Tejas and you'll want uninterrupted air stream through your continuously-rewetted neck bandana. Watch the hydration levels and your speed, as the state troopers take it 'real personal-like.' Avoid Corpus - its a pit. Nearby Port Aransas is much nicer and yo can ride & camp right on the beach. South Padre by Brownsville is nicer, more natural, clearer water. Just plan on replacing salt-pitted connectors upon your return home if you worry about such things... wish I could show you around, but I'm now in Bangkok - riding in the same weather/ but much more stimulating traffic! Anybody want to ride upcountry and see some ca. 10th Century Khmer ruins and eat some serious food?
