Junuary First Ride in the PNW

My friend Bob has not been able to do much riding the past two years due to health and family issues. He recently bought a red FZ1, which should be more comfortable for day rides and road trips than his fastest color 996.

With Mayvember behind us, Bob, Ike, and I took advantage of a weather window to welcome in Junuary with a ride up to Camano Island, recently made (in)famous by the teenage fugitive Colton Harris-Moore.

The main roads run down the back bone of the island and you have to take side roads down to the shore to enjoy scenes of Puget Sound like those in the first two photos.

One such road led us to Cama Beach State Park, a restored 1930-ish fishing resort.

Guests and visitors are not allowed to bring motor vehicles down to the resort. A shuttle van will take you to and from the parking lots on the hillside above the resort if you don't want to use the hiking path. Our riding gear is not suitable for hiking up steep terrain, so we chose the shuttle bus (that's our story and we're sticking to it). The volunteer driver gave us a nice tour of the area.

The cabins and general store have been restored to their original 1930's look with micro wave ovens relacing the original wood stoves. Guests staying in the small cabins must use a comunity bathhouse while those staying in the three "deluxe" cabins have their own bathroooms.

After lunch at the Elger Bay Cafe, we stopped off at Silvana Meats on the way back home.

Photo #3: Me pointing out their selection.
Photo #4: Bob pointing out the free dog bones they gave him for his danes.
Photo #5: Bob wondering how he is going to haul it all home. Even though Bob is not riding his fastest color 996, he is still wearing his fastest color riding gear.

I'll conclude by throwing literal and figurative bones to Metalhead by posting up some bacon photos.
