Just back from So Cal and WOW!
Got tired of the rain and wind in Washington so I loaded up the Hypermotard S and the Honda CBR 1000rr in the van and shot down to San Diego for some riding. Warm fall days, Palomar was great, but my buddy and I had a very special "L.A. day." Left Encinitas at 4:30 am, got to Woodland Hills at 6:30. Breakfast at Jerry's, unloaded the bikes, and spent the whole day riding every twisty canyon road in the Santa Monica mountains. The classics, Rambla Flores, Latigo, Decker. and a couple of new ones for me, Saddle Peak rd., and a little very twisty residential road off Saddle Peak that dumped out on to Topanga Canyon. We were resting at the top of Rambla Flores, and a Sheriff's motorcycle officer suddenly appears on a white BMW and stops. "How do you like the Hypermotard", he asks. GREAT! Turns out he has a red S, and also a ST4S. We chatted for about ten minutes. What a cool moment! Finished up around 4:00 pm, loaded up the bikes and back home by 7:30 to pizza and beers. Now that's what I call a good day ride, probably one of my best. Everyone we met was nice in L.A. I don't remember it being that way when I lived there in the sixties and early seventies.
Check out this area if you get the chance. Very nice! Cheers, Martyn
