November has been a pretty cold month here in Colorado this year, with more snow than some years. But for Thanksgiving Day it was sunny and mild, with dry roads. So instead of putting a turkey in the oven, I headed out to the garage for a ride.
The 998 wasn't quite ready to ride today:
So I took the GT out and headed for the hills:
Not a bad day for riding, with temps in the mid 50s. It was a little colder in the canyons, but still not bad. There was still lots of snow and ice in the shady spots:
But the roads were pretty clear:
I kept the cornering speeds conservative because you don't know what you might find this time of year - sand, snow melt, deer, ice. Down low in the canyon it was pretty good riding though.
Higher up it got colder and there was more snow. I saw these two trees and decided it was a good time for another photo stop. I love the geometry in this scene:
But then I saw this sign, not what you want to see on a bike:
This particular sign is always like that, even in summer, so I wasn't too concerned. But a few turns up the road and I came to a big patch of black ice in the middle of the road. I decided that would be a good place to turn around.
So out of the hills and back down to the flatlands. No snow down here:
And heading for home. A great day for riding! Lots of cyclists were out too. This guy really checked out the GT when he rode by!
less eating, more riding!
