6500 miles - 2 1/2 weeks out west

I did what was supposed to be a 3 week ride last fall. I posted on advrider (didn't even know about this site then) but thought I'd share w/ fellow Ducatisi.

hope you enjoy

Great report, although I am sorry it had such a sad ending. You were in Crater Lake about 10 days before my group. Check out my report of our trip when you have some spare moments.
Annual Autumn Adventure 2008

I have also ridden many of the same roads as you in Nevada and Utah. You found out why US 50 through Nevada is called the "Loneliest Road in America".

Great ride and a great read with the morning coffee.

With the exception of Glacier I've ridden nearly all the country you crossed on this trip. I love the 50 and ride it at least twice a year. If your ever back through Ely stay at the Hotel Nevada. Biker friendly and only around $35 a night. Beartooth Pass / Red Lodge is another favorite of mine in the summer....remember summer? Forecast here today is high of around 26 with intermittent flurries At least we're on the back side of winter and it's only another six weeks or so before I can take the bikes out of the climate controlled storeroom and get them back in the garage. Thanks for a great post.

Ride

Very historical building. A bunch of us ST owners stayed there on our way to Torrey for the 2007 West Coast Madness. At one time that was the tallest building in Nevada.

Thumbs up

That´s one nice report plus the pics are great. Always liked exploring so now I´m getting sort of itchy thinking about riding once winter is over around here...

Thumps up shalbleib...

just read your report bill. thanks for the heads up. you don't have any GPS routes from that trip or just that part of the country in general do you? i'd like to spend some more time out there at some point. it'd be nice if it didn't take 3 days to get there!

thanks for the other comments too guys.

i often wonder how long would be too long on a motorcycle, if there is such a thing...

Check the ride report on Randy the X Man's website. He is big into Google maps. He did not join us until Roseberg, but his ride report includes the ride around Crater Lake .
http://www.nwbikers.com/RDRNW_AAA08.html

Here are his videos of that trip in order if you want to see what more of the area looks like:

http://www.nwbikers.com/VID_OrHwy227South.html
http://www.nwbikers.com/VID_OrHwy138.html

And last but not least, the famous "Lost" episode which has made a "survival" star out of Dennis.

You may want to browse Randy's website and his videos in general to get a feel for the PNW. Mark Turbo and I make cameo appearances in several of the them.
