3000 mile Honeymoon to Wyoming

After our marriage, we decided to ride to the BMW rally in Gillette Wy. and to see what was fun and interesting in between Wisconsin and Wyoming. The trip started in central Wi. and went south(to avoid a storm) to La Crosse Wi. then opened it up for a long boring ride on Interstate 90 west.

To break up the monotony, we made stops in Mitchell SD to see the Corn Palace, Al's Oasis, and of course Wall Drug. Here are a few pics of the way out.

More Honeymoon ride

We layed over in Spearfish SD. And then the next morning we decided to go ride some crooked roads around Devil's Tower. After that we made our way to Gillette Wy. to the BMW rally. My wife had volunteered to help with registration, so we didnt want to be late. We got to the Rally at about noon on Thursday. Talk about a lot of Beemers! I think there were about 5000 in attendance. Here are a few pics of the ride from Spearfish SD north up to Alladin Wy. then to Devils Tower then to Gillette. Also some Pics from the Rally. We used a service called Sherpa. This Guy sets up a tent, sleeping bags, chairs, towels ,pillows, coffee etc for a very reasonable fee. We didnt need to haul any camping gear to the rally. His service is top notch.

More Honeymoon ride

The previous post shows some stormy weather. Amazingly enough we got some pretty mean thunder storms, wind and rain and never got wet. The storms were at night and the days were awsome with sun and warm. We woke up one morning and lots of bikes hit the ground from all the rain making the ground soft. Thankfully I put pucks under our sidestands.

During the days at the rally we would go on rides and come back in the evening for Beer and Entertainment. On Sat. we went for a 400 mile loop from Gillette up to Sheridan west on Hwy 14 around to 16 back to Buffalo then back to Gillette. This trip up into the Big Horns was great riding. The ride was diverse with lots of twisties and close to 10,000 feet on the passes. The temps that day ranged from 97f in the low areas and 55f at the top of the passes. Still some snow up high. These next pics show the roads and sights of the Big Horn Mountains. Check out the tons of sheep we had to wait to cross the road.

More Honeymoon ride

After the Rally, we went to the famous Black Hills to see if the roads were all there are cracked up to be! We were not disapointed. We stayed one nite in Hill City SD, then a nite in Keystone. The riding included Deadwood, Lead and all the sights in between. We went to see the normal attractions, but the treat was the awesome roads. If you go out to ride the Black Hills, dont miss the following....Needles highway, Nemo road, Iron mountain road and the Wildlife Loop. Also, we had some killer Burgers at a place called Sugar Shack. It is on Hwy 385 and 208.

I hope you enjoyed my post. B

thanks for the post & photos. I spent a night in the "sharpest town in the west" years ago when I had a tire delaminate on my '71 honda 750. very exciting at 80mph.

It looks like you had a great time. I'm about 2 hours away from the Bighorns so I spend a lot of time up there on my bike. There are tons of great roads in the Black Hills as well.

If you liked Aladdin, you'll love Lost Springs, WY. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:101_0193.JPG
