and a '03 999. That's right, I rode a sportbike, from central Texas all the way to Washington State (Seattle area). There will be pictures coming shortly, but first a few thoughts, musings and rants.
I averaged 90 mph the whole way, with spurts of 120-158 at times in the desolate stretches of the Badlands. At these speeds my mpg really sucked, as did my tire wear on the hot and course pavement. After one 130 mph 15 minutes session I had "gumballs" on the center of the tire.
I only got one speeding ticket, right outside Lubbock, TX. The Trooper was friendly, and almost apologetic "I'm sorry, but you were going 95 and accelerating in a 70, so I have to write you a ticket, but just call the judge and tell her you are in the military and she'll let you off."
There is no police presence whatsoever beyond 10 miles or so of towns in the Southwest. It really is a speeders' paradise. Reminds me a bit of Mad Max.
Wind noise is deafening and fatiguing after a few short hours. The little ear bud headphones do an alright job of quieting things down.
Music = Sanity.
The only hiccup I had was a burned out tail light bulb, and the little tail light black plastic piece falling off. Though, wait, after riding through a monsoon-like downpour and parking the bike, the next day water had collected in the plug boot area and shorted it, leaving me putting away at a top speed of 90 mph on the rear cylinder. She sounded just like a MX Thumper.
Anywoo, without further delays here are some photos-
