Pelican Run/2008
My regional riding group made our annual Pelican Run to Pacific City, Oregon this past weekend. Highlights of the trip included Hwy. 47 between Clatskanie and Mist ("Oregon's Dragon Tail"), Hwy. 53 between US 26 and US 101, and Hwy. 229. the Siletz River Road. I was too busy enjoying the twisties to stop and take photos, but I will post up a few I took at our rendezvous poiint in St. Helens, OR, our rest stop at Cape Mears west of Tilamook, and our rest stop in Nashville, OR.
See if you can spot all five Ducs (4 red Multis and my red ST4s) in the photos. Bonus points if you can identify Paul Geller (Mr. Ducati Designs) and Mark Turbo in the photos.
I'll post a link to Randy the X Man's videos of the ride when they are available.

Here are some photos from the second day. The store at Nashville is surreal. It is in the middle of nowhere and I cannot tell if it has ever been open. There were open boxes of rotting and wilted produce sitting on a bench outside the store. It appeared that not even bugs or wild animals would touch it.
Later in the afternoon six of us including Mark and Paul on their Multis tried to retrace last year's route over Bald Mtn. on the summit of the Coast Range. We had to turn back short of the summit when the road was blocked with snow. This is the latest I have ever seen snow on the highest peaks of the Coast Range.

Nice shots, Bill. Looks like good times. I picked Mark Turbo out of the group okay, but I don't know Mr. Geller by sight. You put in some pretty good miles coming down from the northside!

I once took a brief test ride on one. Paul and Mark have both owned ST's and Multis. If you want comparisons of the two bikes, they would be two people to contact.

I live in Pacific City and heard you guys coming. The sound of a Ducati is rare around here, unless it's mine. I live across the street from where you stayed. I run a bed and breakfast. I was going to go say hi, but was busy with guests.
Next year, I'd like to ride with you all for a bit and maybe you might want to stay here....

And you heard four of them rumbling when we pulled out Sunday morning: 3 Multis and my ST4s. Stay in touch for next year's ride by joining our regional riding group.

I did it. Hope to see you on the road. The down side to running a B&B is I'm busy for Summer weekend rides. I get a few hours at most. Midweek touring is what I try to do.

videos
Randy the X Man has posted up the first of what he says will be 4-5 videos of this year's Pelican Run. I wll post the other videos on this thread as they become available. If you enjoy this one, check back here periodically for more.
Last November Randy purchased a Honda ST1300 after many years on cruisers. This was his first multi day trip on the ST1300. You can tell when he starts to see the advantages of a sport tourer at the start of the third song, "Suicide Blonde".
The road is the Siletz River Road (Oregon Hwy. 229), which we rode the second day of our trip (Sunday) from its western end at US 101 at Kernville (just south of Lincoln City) as far east as the town of Siletz .

We continue on east on Logsden road from Siletz to the Nashville Store. Randy eidted out the two mile stretch of gravel road on the middle of nowhere. He also continues to ignore my request for Vivaldi background music.
